Now I am quietly waiting
for the catastrophe of my
personality to seem beautiful again, and interesting, and
modern. The country is grey and brown and white in
trees, snows and skies of
laughter always diminishing, less
funny not just darker, not
just grey. It may be the coldest
day of the year, what does he
think of that? I mean, what do I?
And if I do, perhaps I am myself
again. Frank

Liam : I'm gonna jump! Otis Milburn : Stop, Liam, don't. Don't do this. Liam : Oh. Hi Otis. Otis Milburn : You don't wanna jump. Liam : No. I think I do. Otis Milburn : You don't. Look... sometimes, the people we like don't like us back, and it's painful, but there's nothing we can do about it. Liam : You don't understand. Otis Milburn : I do. I do understand. I know what it's like when someone doesn't feel the same way about you. It's... someone you can't stop thinking about. It hurts. But you can't make people like you. Liam : I don't like her - I love her!
I'm so tired of being alone I'm so tired of on-my-own Won't you help me girl Just as soon as you can
People say that I've found a way To make you say that you love me Hey baby, you didn't go for that It's a natural fact That I wanna come back Show me where it's at, baby
I'm so tired of being alone I'm so tired of on-my-own Won't you help me girl Soon as you can
I guess you know that I, uh, I love you so Even though you don't want me no more Hey, hey, hey, hey, I'm cryin' tears All through the years I'll tell ya like it is Honey, please love me if you will
Yeah baby Tired of being alone here by myself, now I tell ya, I'm tired baby I'm tired of being all wrapped up late at night In my dreams, nobody but you, baby
Sometimes I wonder If you love me like you say you do You see baby, I, I, I been thinkin' about it, yeah I been, I been wantin' to get next to you baby You see, sometimes I fold my arms, I say, mmh-hmm-mmh Oh yeah Oh baby Meeting you has proven to me To be my greatest dream, yeah
I'm so tired of being alone (Tired, baby) So tired of being alone (Yeah, you don't know what I'm talkin' about) So tired of being alone Sometimes late at night I get to wonderin' about you baby I'm so tired of being alone (Oh baby, baby) So tired of being alone So tired of being alone
I'm so tired of being alone (Oh baby) So tired of being alone (You're my heart's desire) So tired of being alone
I work all day, and get half-drunk at night. Waking at four to soundless dark, I stare. In time the curtain-edges will grow light. Till then I see what’s really always there: Unresting death, a whole day nearer now, Making all thought impossible but how And where and when I shall myself die. Arid interrogation: yet the dread Of dying, and being dead, Flashes afresh to hold and horrify. The mind blanks at the glare. Not in remorse — The good not done, the love not given, time Torn off unused — nor wretchedly because An only life can take so long to climb Clear of its wrong beginnings, and may never; But at the total emptiness for ever, The sure extinction that we travel to And shall be lost in always. Not to be here, Not to be anywhere, And soon; nothing more terrible, nothing more true. This is a special way of being afraid No trick dispels. Religion used to try, That vast moth-eaten musical brocade Created to pretend we never die, And specious stuff that says No rational being Can fear a thing it will not feel, not seeing That this is what we fear — no sight, no sound, No touch or taste or smell, nothing to think with, Nothing to love or link with, The anaesthetic from which none come round. And so it stays just on the edge of vision, A small unfocused blur, a standing chill That slows each impulse down to indecision. Most things may never happen: this one will, And realisation of it rages out In furnace-fear when we are caught without People or drink. Courage is no good: It means not scaring others. Being brave Lets no one off the grave. Death is no different whined at than withstood. Slowly light strengthens, and the room takes shape. It stands plain as a wardrobe, what we know, Have always known, know that we can’t escape, Yet can’t accept. One side will have to go. Meanwhile telephones crouch, getting ready to ring In locked-up offices, and all the uncaring Intricate rented world begins to rouse. The sky is white as clay, with no sun. Work has to be done. Postmen like doctors go from house to house.
Philip Larkin
Otras que he hallado no me convencen.
‘Aubade’ is a depressing poem, although – as Stephen Fry has said in conversation with Jonathan Bate – it remains a popular poem because it reminds us that out of dark and depressing thoughts, great art can come. There is something consolatory about it, for all its bleakness. Christopher Ricks is fond of quoting Frank Kermode on the limitations of some art which is ‘too consolatory to console’, the implication being that we sometimes like our art to face uncomfortable truths and to transmute horrifying realities into great poetry. ‘Aubade’ is one such example. We may not feel consoled by the message – we’re not meant to – but we can take heart from the fact that, out of such melancholy meditation (and it was very real to Larkin, as was the getting half-drunk at night as a way of coping with it) can come a great poem like ‘Aubade’.
- Surprised you even come to this stuff. It's so lame.
- It's the opposite of lame, Syd. It's theater. It's live theater.
Westinghouse Memorial High School on a Friday night.
Bring it in! What could be more tragic?
More Shakespearean?
Think about it.
The moment the lights come up on Hamlet, you know it's not gonna end well.
Take, uh... Mr. Bradley Lewis.
His best case scenario is, what, managing some regional insurance sales company?
Where he gets to, I don't know, call the shots on Employee of the Month?
I mean, these are the people that will actually attendthe five, ten, 20-year reunion, because, aside from this, nothing else all that noteworthy is gonna happen.
This is as good as it gets for them.
And I like watching 'em, like Hamlet, when everything goes to shit in the end...and everyone dies.
Kiss me each morning for a million years Hold me each evening by your side Tell me you love me for a million years Then if it don't work out Then if it don't work out Then you can tell me goodbye Sweeten my coffee with a morning kiss Soften my dreams with your sigh After you've loved me for a million years Then if it don't work out Then if it don't work out Then you can tell me goodbye If you must go I won't grieve If you just wait a life-time before you leave If you must go I won't say "no" Just so we can say that we tried Tell me you love me for a million years Then if it don't work out Then if it don't work out Then you can tell me goodbye
“The problem with a person having a lack of love is that they don’t know what it looks like. So it’s easy for them to get tricked, to see things that aren’t there. But I guess we all lie to ourselves all the time.”
